I've been busy posting more photos. There's still a backlog, but I added photos from Florence for the period of 8-18 October and added a page in the Photo Gallery from our day trip to San Miniato.
Last night was the first night we needed to turn on the heat. The apartment has radiators under each of the three windows plus one in the hallway across from the kitchen. I think the nighttime low was 37°.
Today was drizzly and in the upper 60’s. We left the apartment around noon to grab lunch at Salumeria Verdi, one of our favorite sandwich places. The owner, Pino, mans the counter and delights in making panini. We went with the porchetta today. I had mine with smoked cheese, marinated red and yellow bell peppers, spinach, spicy marinated eggplant, and pesto. Cinzia had hers with smoked cheese, marinated red and yellow bell peppers, spicy marinated eggplant, and spicy sauce. Both were delicious. After Pino’s we headed to my favorite gelateria, La Carraia 2. Their mascarpone and chestnut mousse is fantastic.
Then it was off to the train station to book our trip to Rome. They offer a fast train which is a non-stop train to Rome. We’ll depart Florence on November 1st at 1:10pm and arrive in Rome at 2:45pm. It’s fast, but expensive at €45 per person.
Tonight is the last Tuesday of the month, which means Art Night. Several museums are opened free to the public. Cinzia has a palazzo tour lined up for us at 7pm. After that we’re going to eat at Trattoria San Lorenzo. Yes, that’s Tony #1’s place. Cinzia’s looking forward to the crepes. I’d better go get ready.
