Our last few weeks in Padova flew by. I probably would have written several more blogs, but Weebly, the blog provider, wanted me to verify my account by sending me a code via text message. With no phone, this was impossible, so writing stopped but picture taking continued. All of the shots from these weeks are posted in the Photo Gallery.
What would these blogs have been about? Well, we went to a car show and met Renato, a nice old guy who owned a 1957 Fiat 500 convertible and was nice enough to let Cinzia sit inside while he gave her the tour. Here’s a video.
We also made a trip to the large Coop grocery store and seemed to be the only ones inside. Their meat, cheese, fish, and wine departments were huge. They also carried bussolà cookies, similar to essi, from the same Palmisano bakery in Burano.
There would have been a blog about the markets in Piazze delle Erbe talking about their amazing produce stalls and some of the unusual items we found – like kaki, giuggiole, and nespole.
We also had a few nice meals – one of which included a warm rabbit salad. This is a classic dish in Padova and was delicious.
Another blog might have been dedicated to a trip we took to a candy store. This 2-floor shop was immense. We picked up all sorts of goodies, including our first panettone of the season, some unusual chocolates, and the limited edition rose chocolate Baci. Apparently this new rose chocolate is popping up in chocolate shops and in gelaterie, but it may just be a fad.
We also picked up a roast from the butcher. They make a variety of beautiful and tasty roasts on Saturdays. They’re closed on Sundays, so shoppers buy the roasts so they’ll have something to eat on Sunday. This one was a rabbit roast wrapped in pancetta and topped with a sprig of rosemary. Cinzia made some risotto and the roast came out perfectly.
On the 21st, Anthony came into town for the week. We made a three excursions out of Padova, but the rest of the time was spent in cafes drinking cocktails, eating lunch at the piazza, walking about town, or relaxing at home with a game of Burraco. You can watch the slideshows from our two trips to Venezia and one trip to Verona once I get them posted. In the meantime, I’ll leave you with this nifty little chestnut roaster and a Laurel Head on her bar crawl. Enjoy!
