In addition to the Italian TV game shows and cooking shows, there are the occasional commercials that raise an eyebrow. Here are two of them.
The first is for a pregnancy test kit called Clear Blue. It’s dubbed from English, but I’ve never seen this one on U.S. television (and I watch a lot of TV). The dubbing is excellent in Italy, so at first I thought it was made in Italy and geared towards the younger crowd that no longer sees marriage as necessary, especially since the government does nothing to encourage marriage – at least not in any financial way. So maybe “these kids these days” just ask their girlfriends if they want to have a baby. According to this commercial, the woman is just as thrilled with the box containing the Clear Blue pregnancy test kit as she would be if it had contacted a diamond ring or 18K gold necklace. And like U.S. ads, they show a mixed couple – also not realistic.
The second is for a men’s fragrance from Paco Rabbane called XS. Cinzia especially likes this one. No explanation is needed, and like the previous ad, I’ve never seen in on U.S. television. (Maybe these ads are just for the online crowd.)
