Today was another beautiful day – clear blue skies, 80°F, low humidity. Around 11:00 we left our apartment and headed through the center of Senigallia, south along the beach road, and towards a restaurant we spotted earlier in the week. The “strip” was packed. The beach clubs were full of sunbathers and paddleball players, the sidewalks were crowded with people out for a walk, many with dogs or strollers, and the bike lane was just as busy. We arrived at Antica Trattoria da Marion well before the 13:00 lunch crowd and sat outside under their canopy for lunch. This was also a Wi-Fi spot, so after placing our pizza orders we checked our email and Facebook. The pizzas were the best we’d had since arriving in Italy – just like I make at home on most Sundays.
After lunch we strolled along the beach and snapped a few more photos. We passed the Rotunda and walked along the shoreline. I spotted this classic pink Vespa parked outside a gelateria. After a nice walk and plenty of people-watching it was 15:00 and we headed back towards the town center for a gelato at Puro & Bio.
As we walked through the center of Senigallia and towards the main piazza, Cinzia wanted to find a restroom, so we decided it was easier to just sit at one of the outdoor cafés and order a water and a Diet Coke, then use the facilities. We found a table and a waiter ran over to take out order: “Just a bottle of acqua frizzante and a Coca Light”. After taking turns visiting the restroom I return to the table to find our drinks, plus 5 other plates of snacks to accompany our drinks! There was a small bowl of potato chips, a plate with some tomato puree on flaky pastry, another dish with a variety of 5 small baked flaky treats, a bowl with carrot sticks and some olive oil for dipping, and another plate with a small bowl of green olives and another small bowl of lupine (a.k.a. Guinea Beans). We found this hilarious. We just ordered a water and a Diet Coke and got all this – only because we wanted to use the restroom! The bill was only €5,50.
