Last night we had our first GroupOn dinner. If you’re not familiar with GroupOn, it’s a website that offers discounts from businesses in many towns across the U.S. and in Europe. Back in January I signed up for Florence and Rome. Each day I’d receive 3-4 GroupOn offers via e-mail. When I saw a restaurant deal I’d check out the location (was it within walking distance?), check out the menu (was it something we’d like to eat?), check their website (was it someplace that looked nice?), and then check the reviews on TripAdvisor (what did others have to say about the restaurant?). If everything looked good I bought the deal. Then I printed out the coupon and brought it with me. We stopped by Cuco Cucina Contemporanea earlier in the week to book our reservation. At the time I checked TripAdvisor they were rated #7 of 787 restaurants in Florence.
The restaurant is small with only 3 tables on the first floor (seating for 10-12) and 3 more tables on the upper floor (seating for 6). The menu changes daily. This night the antipasto options were pear and ricotta skewer with balsamico or quiche Lorraine with pumpkin flowers and mint. We ordered one of each and both were tasty.
For our first course the options were spinach and ricotta ravioli or pumpkin and ginger soup. Again, we ordered one of each and both were tasty.
There were four options for our second course. Cinzia chose the eggplant soufflé and I went with the meatloaf. You guessed it, both were indeed tasty.
For dessert Cinzia went with the Vin Santo tiramisu and I ordered the cheesecake. Tastiness all around.
Water and coffee were included and we added a half bottle of red wine for €8. The GroupOn deal cost €39 which saved us €41 off what would have been a €80 dinner for two in Florence.
On the stroll back home we stopped by a statue of one of the Medici and I took this photo of Cinzia who was wearing a new top she purchased earlier that day. It was a nice way to end the week.
