We would like to find a few things to take back home with us, so today we went to a BIG supermarket. I found Panorama online and saw they had one conveniently located near a metro a few stops outside the city center.
Panorama is as big as a Super Wal-Mart only better since the products they carry look of much better quality. The store is well lit and very clean although as with most stores in Italy there is less aisle space. It is divided onto 2 floors; the grocery items on the first floor and the house wares, clothes, shoes and toys on the second floor. There is an inclined moving walkway that you can take your grocery cart on to the second floor. The wheels are designed to grab the grooves on the walkway so it doesn’t roll while going up or down (ingenious!!)
The bread department has at least 30 different in-store baked breads. The cheese department is huge, more kinds of cheese then you can imagine. The deli area is packed with great looking cured meats being sliced to order. The fish department has several varieties of whole fresh fish as well as fillets, 4 different types of clams, little snails, mussels and lobsters. The produce section is equally impressive.
Italy is really getting into recycling and a lower carbon foot print. One of the things I really like about this store is they have a cleaning product refilling station; a BYOB and fill station with household cleaner, laundry soap, laundry softener and non-chlorine bleach additive.
There is a large selection of fancy gifts boxes for the holidays right now full of cheese, pasta, sauces, candies, panettone and wine. There are also bottles of grappa in beautiful shaped bottles; bicycles, airplanes, globes, Christmas trees and art deco shapes. If I had an extra suitcase I would love to take a few home.

We did not find the Scottie truffle risotto we wanted but we did find the pizza dishes and the Bialetti moka coffee pot. I also bought some goodies to give away and a panattone we will eat for breakfast the next few days. Maybe we can find Scottie truffle risotto when we go through Terni on our way to Torre Orsina next weekend.
After our little shopping adventure we arrived home and I made roman artichokes and risotto that was fantastic; all in all another wonderful day.
